GREYTOWN
ST. LUKE’S CHURCH CONFIRMATION SERVICE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Twelve candidates came forward at the confirmation service at St. Luke’s Anglican Church conducted by the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. St. Barbe Holland, and was an inspiration to the candidates as well as the large congregation. Personal. Mrs. T. N. Smallwood and Mrs. A. H. Bull were present at the League of Mothers’ annual conference in Wellington. Mr. Clinton Stringfellow, the wellknown All Black footballer, was entertained prior to his entering a military camp, at a farewell dinner by the members of the Greytown Football Club. Mr. J. F. Thompson (president of the Wairarapa Rugby Union) presided and outlined the notable football career of Mr. Stringfellow and made a presentation to him from his old club. An interesting toast list was honoured. Mr. Pickard, president of the Greytbwn Football Club, stated that ten club members had given their lives on active service and 82 members were serving with the Forces overseas. A number, too, were serving in the Dominion. - Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for Greytown for September were: Births, 2; marriages, 1; deaths 1. Rainfall. The rainfall registered in Greytown in September was 10.61 inches, there being 22 wet days. This is the heaviest rainfall recorded since 1935. TOWN HALL “THE BIG BLOCKADE” The thrilling story of Britain’s stranglehold on Germany and German occupied territory, “The Big Blockade,” will be shown tonight, with Leslie Banks, Michael Redgrave, Will Hay and Quenton Reynolds in the chief roles.
