OVERHAUL IN AUSTRALIA SOME TRANSFERS FROM FIGHTING SERVICES. TO ESSENTIAL INDUSTRY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. Australia has now reached the end of her manpower resources and' future requirements of the Services and essential industry must be met by a rearrangement of existing programmes. With this object in view, the War Cabinet, after a five hours’ discussion. at which General Sir Thomas Blarney was present, decided on the withdrawal of 20,000 men from the Services during the next ten months, for transfer to essential industry. In addition, the munitions programme will be reduced to release another 20,000 workers for food production and other urgent projects. Thirty thousand women will be diverted to industries of the highest priority.
