MASTERTON

ERECTION OF NEW BUILDING CONSIDERED. USE OF PRESENT SITE LIKELY. It is understood .that the question of replacing the existing Masterton Post Office building with a new structure is under consideration. Owing to certain circumstances in regard to the telephone exchange equipment, it is likely to be some time before the erection of a new building can be put in hand. * It is believed that the present intention of the authorities is to rebuild on the existing site. The new building will probably be a reinforced concrete structure, constructed on earthquakeresisting lines. When the problem regarding the telephone exchange equipment has been overcome, temporary accommodation will have to be found for the various branches of the Post Office before any demolition work can be started. It appears, therefore, that some months will elapse before anything definite is likely to happen.
