Decision was given by the Court of Appeal yesterday in the Onekaka mining case, the Court finding unanimously against the Crown. The case originated in the Crown’s seeking the forfeiture of mining privileges at Onekaka, but the warden found that breach of contract by the Crown disentitled it to seek forfeiture. The Crown appealed to the Supreme Court, and the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) dismissed the appeal. Yesterday the Court of Anneal dismissed an appeal from the Chief Justice’s decision. Dehydration of Vegetables. Two factories for the dehydration of vegetables will probably be established by the Government in Canterbury and another near Nelson. The location of the Canterbury factories has not been decided upon, but it is expected that there will be either two in the Christchurch area or one at Timaru and one at Christchurch. Recently representatives of the Internal Marketing Division, which controls the dehydration of vegetables, visited Christchurch, and considered possible factory sites in Riccarton and Addington. Work for Students and Pupils. Arrangements for the employment of students and senior school pupils during the coming Christmas holidays similar to those made last year were announced yesterday by the Minister of Industrial Manpower, Mr McLagan. He said that the preliminary interviewing of all university students had already begun, though in many cases it would not be possible to inform them as to the work for which they were required till early in November. At the same time district manpower officers and vocational guidance officers were discussing with head teachers arrangements in regard to senior pupils with a view to determining how many would be available.
