OBITUARY
MR EDWARD RICHARDS. The death occurred in Masterton yesterday of Mr Edward Richards, a wellknown resident of the town, in his 83rd year. The late Mr Richards, who was born in Napier, had lived in Masterton for the greater part of his life. He was employed by the W.F.C.A. Ltd. for over 45 years and had the distinction of never having worked for any other employer. He retired about 20 years ago. Mr Richards was formerly a prominent member of the Masterton Bowling Club. He is survived by a widow, three sons, Messrs B. (Palmerston North), E. (Greytown), and V. Richards (Masterten), and two daughters, Mesdames R. Gunn (Lower Hutt) and C. Smith (Wellington). The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Chapel of Hyde's Funeral Service Ltd., following a service at 1 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MR F. W. BARTHOLOMEW. The death occurred yesterday, after a short illness of Mr F. W. Bartholomew, of “Taipos,” Tinui. The late Mr Bartholomew, who was a native of Lincolnshire, had been a successful farmer in the Tinui district for the last forty years. In his younger days he was an enthusiastic member of the Tinui Tennis Club but apart from his farming his hobby was the growing of dahlias and chrysanthemums for which he had more than a local reputation. A man of genial disposition, a strong church member, and a community worker he will be missed by his many friends. He is survived by a widow, one son, Mr Frank Bartholomew, and one daughter, Mrs D. H. Speedy, who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Tinui-Castlepoint Road corner at 3 p.m. for the Tinui Cemetery. MR JOSEPH WILLIAM CARTER The death occurred suddenly last night of Mr Joseph William Carter, of Michael Street, Masterton, in his 73rd year. He had been in indifferent health for the past two or three years. The late Mr Carter was born at Portsmouth, England, 72 years ago, and came to New Zealand with his parents when he was four years of age. He followed the occupation of baker at Lower Hutt and Masterton, coming to the Wairarapa 28 years ago. He is survived by a widow, six sons and three daughters. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the late residence following a service at 3 p.m., for the Master- , ton Cemetery. I
