CARTERTON
SCHOOL CONTESTS BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL. (“Times-Age” Special.) Playing on the Carterton school courts yesterday the Martinborough girls were defeated by Carter ton by 11 goals to 9 in an interesting game of basketball. The final game of the school football season was' played on Carrington Park yesterday afternoon between the Carterton and Martinborough secondary schools. The visiting team which had gone through the season without a loss won by 21 points to 11. Mr M. Hurley was referee. Complimentary Dance. The Carterton Football Club will tender a complimentary dance’ to its ladies’ committee in the State Theatre on Wednesday, October 13. Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra will supply the music and there will be waltz, fox trot and statue dance competitions. Wairarapa Election Recount. The official recount of votes cast in the Wairarapa election commenced at Featherston this morning. Youth Movement. Last night a very largely-attended gathering of the Youth Movement was held at St. Mark’s Parish Hall. The Rev. G. H. Goodman, of Masterton delivered a short address. Under the capable direction of Mr S. T. Rooney, a programme of games and musical items was provided. Solos were rendered by Misses Joan Barron and J. Paterson and Misses Rooney and Newbould played a duet. The accompaniments were played by Misses D. Armstrong, V. Irwin and Unice Buchan. The committee which is fostering the Youth Movement locally, is composed of the Revs. W. F. Stent, W. J. CoulingJ R. Grice, Major Herring, Mrs N. R. Armstrong and Miss E. Newbould. Snooker Tournament. A handicap snooker tournament played by members of the Carterton Bowling Club in the club’s pavilion was concluded last evening and was won by Mr C. H. Barber.
