FARMERS & POLITICS

MR. HUGH MORRISON’S OBSERVATIONS. ENDORSEMENT OF RESOLUTION ON SUBJECT. At today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, Mr Hugh Morrison (president) said that prior to the election campaign a section of the farming comrounity wanted to enter political arena. Auckland was keen on its own party. However, the Wairarapa executive passed a resolution before the campaign that it would not enter politics. The election proved that the people wanted two strong parties and not a number of parties, and the executive could endorse its resolution. Mr. Morrison said two strong parties in Parliament was true democracy—a strong Opposition was to the advantage of the community. Small parties in Germany had caused the rise of Hitler.
