POSTING THE RESULTS

SCENES AT “TIMES-AGE” BOARD LARGE CROWD ASSEMBLES MUCH INTEREST MANIFESTED A large number of electors assembled in Chapel Street on Saturday night to watch the posting of district election results on the “Times-Age” display board and to hear announcements and speeches. The Masterton candidates spoke from the balcony of . the “Times-Age” building after the declaration of the poll. Under an arrangement with Mr H. Byrn, first class service was given by a wireless equipment, used in broadcasting from 2YA and by a microphone for announcing district results. The local results were announced by Mr Byrn. Grateful thanks are due to Messrs H. M. Boddington, A. D. Low, A. P. Smith and N. C. C. Shepherd (Featherston) for most capable assistance in the compilation of the local returns and to Messrs S. and C. Smith, who undertook the posting of results. With a double licensing poll as well as a Parliamentary poll to handle, the Masterton Returning Officer, Mr A. Whitaker, and his staff had a' very heavy and arduous task. The official arrangements worked well and thanks are due to Mr Whitaker and his staff for facilities and assistance courteously given in connection with the posting of results.

In Carterton, the results of the voting at the various booths as they came to hand, were announced from a loudspeaker from the “Daily News” office,

and Mr. R. W. Roydhouse in conjunction with Mr. C. J. DeLacey, Carterton representative of the “Times-Age,” kept a large crowd interested with district results. The result of the Wairarapa election was held up as a result of the Silverstream figures failing to come in. Messrs. Roberts and Maher addressed the electors at the Regent Theatre and then left for Upper Hutt to thank electors on the other side of the Rimutakas.
