PERSONAL

— — Mr E. J. Knowles and family have left Pongaroa to take up their residence at Lower Hutt. Mrs Osborne, Masterton, has returned home from Kohinui, where she was the guest of Mrs S. Bone. Misses H. Thompson and D. Pacey (Wellington) are the guests of Mrs R. C. Humphries, of “Crosshills,” Pongaroa. The death has occurred in Wellington of Sister Willa Campbell. She was on the staff of the Bowen Street private hospital for 11 years. The engagement is announced of Valda Jeane, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. L. Hessell, Bannister Street, Masterton, and P.F.C. Bernard John, U.S.M.C., only son of Mr and Mrs O. J. Anderson, Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.A. At a meeting of the joint committees of the Masterton West School and the Home and School Association, held in the Masterton West School last night, occasion was taken to farewell Mr F. Jestin, of the staff of Thos. Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., who has been promoted to Feilding. Mr R. Graham, in presenting Mr Jestin with a polished tobacco box, referred in eulogistic terms to the work Mr Jestin had carried out in the interests of the school, as a member of the school committee, and as chairman of the Home and School Association. Several other members spoke in a similar strain, and Mr Jestin suitably replied. Mrs T. L. Wright presented Mrs Jestin with a bouquet.
