ABSURD TELEGRAM
DENOUNCED BY INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE.
Addressing an overcrowded meeting at Pongaroa last evening, Captain Justin Power, Independent candidate for Masterton, stated that he had received a telegram from a man called Brady, who purported to have some standing in the Independent Group. The telegram invited all Independents to withdraw from the contest. “This man Brady,” said Captain Power, “is evidently the agent of some rival political party and is unknown in the Independent movement. In any case, fancy anyone having the audacity to ask a soldier of the Second N.Z.E.F. to retire from u political fight. The suggestion is an absurd one and is beneath contempt, but it is worthy of mention as it shows in a marked degree to what depth our political system has degenerated.”
