National Party Meetings. Two political meetings were addressed by Mr G. H. Mackley, National Party candidate for the Masterton seat, yesterday. At Tiraumea, there was a very good attendance of electors. Mr S. Raleigh presided. A vote of thanks was carried by acclamation! on the motion of Mr J. Olsen, seconded by Mr W. Wallis. An exceptionally good meeting was held at Pongaroa last night. Mr C. Hunter presided. The vote of thanks was carried on the motion of Messrs W. E. Davies and P. H. Donovan. Rimutaka Tunnel. Aircraftman Thompson. Democratic Labour candidate for the Masterton seat, addressed an interested audience at Solway last evening. Mr C. McLauchlan was in the chair. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Answering a question about the Rimutaka tunnel, Aircraftman Thompson said his party would put the hole through, but it would not be a hungry, omnivorous hole, demanding tribute from the people of Now Zealand forever. IL only believed in paying for a thing once. If other parties put the tunnel through, he said, they would be paying for it all their lives, and their children and children’s children would be paying as well. They called that sound finance.
