GREYTOWN

“MIMES & MELODIES” AN ENJOYABLE CONCERT. . (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Town Hall was packed for the concert, “Mimes and Melodies,” organised by Mrs J. F. Thompson. 'The whole programme was put through without a hitch and reflected great credit on those responsible. Miss Julie Tuppen, of Lower Hutt, delighted the audience with her acrobatic dance and! responded to repeated encores with a delightful tap dance. The stage settings throughout were colourful and attractive and Messrs C. G. Bouzaid, R. O’Neale and S. Shedden were congratulated on their work. The Maori scene, “A Page from the Past,” was excellent and Mr J. F. Thompson gave a realistic commentary of the early days of the Maori in the Wairarapa. The singing and costumes of the Papawai Maoris brought rounds of applause. The final part of the programme was a one-act comedy produced by Mrs C. Brooking. At the interval the Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, thanked all those who had taken part in and assisted at the concert. The takings amounted to approximately £5O, which will go to the Soldiers’ Parcel Fund. Those taking part in the concert represented the Dramatic Club, Girl Guides, and Boy Scouts. Gunner Wally Dunn, who is home from the Middle East, delighted the audience with his impersonations. Bowling Centre Meeting. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre delegates will be held at Greytown on Thursday, September 30. Personal Items. N. J. Winch, R.N.Z.A.F., is the guest of his sister, Mrs Fred. Hercock, Papawai.
