SOCIAL SECURITY TAX
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l have followed with some interest the speeches of several prospective members for Parliamentary honours, during the last few weeks. I say honours because the elector imposes a most sacred trust on the elected representative. But to hear .the promises being made by candidates on all sides is really becoming a joke, and not in keeping with the responsibilities entailed. ... I notice {several candidates on the National side are stating that if returned to power they will exempt domestic workers from paying Social Security tax. Does this mean that domestic workers will receive all benefits under the Act and pay no taxes for the benefits, or are they to be exempt for the tax and benefits? Why exempt the domestic worker from Social Security tax? Where is the catch?—l am, etc., “NAUTICUS.” Masterton, September 16.
