WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

MEETING AT CARTERTON COMPETITION RESULT'S. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of, the Carterton Women’s Institute the members stood as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mrs Martha Jane Diamond, one cf the pioneers of the district. i ; Mrs S. J. Munn gave an interesting demonstration on the process of refooting stockings. At the conclusion, she was thanked by Mrs Hurndell and presented with a bunch of choice spring flowers. The motto for the month was given by Mrs E. T. Phelps, “A little forethought often saves a lot of afterthought.” ' i

Competitions resulted as follows: — Sponge cake: Mrs G. Steffert, 1; Mrs Hurndell, 2. Jam jar of spring flowers: Mrs G. Steffert, 1; Miss Wolters, 2; Mrs I;. Hurndell, 3. Child’s apron: Mrs G. Steffert, 1; Mrs H. Goodin, 2. KAITUNA-FERNRIDGE. TENTH BIRTHDAY PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the tenth birthday of the Kai-tuna-Femridge Women’s Institute, there was a good attendance of members. Competitions were won by. Mrs Peters and Mrs Laing. Mrs Ogilvy entertained with songs. The flower competition for the year was won by Mrs D. J. Cooper, with Mrs J. Shaw second. At the monthly meeting, Mrs Pringle, the delegate to the Gisborne conference, gave an interesting report. Mrs Scharnweber demonstrated the making of bead bags.
