3 ROAD UNDER WATER / LOSS OF STOCK. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was much flooding in this lo- - cality as the result of the recent heavy - rain. The main road near the Lower Valley factory was under water to a considerable depth and traffic was unable to get through for a few days., Stock, particularly lambs, suffered in some localities and some loss has been suffered. The Kumenga Road is still impassable to vehicular traffic. Other roads in the district were under water for considerable distances. Mr J. Hutchison lost three valuable dairy cows during the flood. The Taunui stream was a raging torrent and acres of valuable land have been covered in silt and gravel. The Palliser Bay road is again blocked to vehicular traffic. Two large slips came down during the recent wet weather and it will be a long time before the road is clear. Tribal Committee. A meeting of the Tribal Committee was held on .Saturday evening when the secretary submitted a statement of accounts for the dance and also a report of the activities of the committee since its inception. The chairman congratulated the committee on its splendid efforts. Personal Items. Sergeant A. Smith, Wanganui, who is on furlough, spent a few days with his sister, Mrs Waiwera. Miss Polly Enoka is an inmate of the Grey town Hospital. Mr and Mrs A. Spicer, who have left to take up their residence in Waipukurau, were tendered a farewell party at the Lake Ferry. The guests of the evening were presented by Mr F. Lovegrove with a dinner wagon and cheque from the residents of the district, both Maori and pakeha. Mr Spicer suitably responded. The death occurred at the Lower Hutt of Mr W. Allen, father of Mrs J. (“Hapi”) Sutherland, to whom the sympathy of the residents is extended. Mr Stan Thomas, of a New Zealand Air Force station, was a visitor here for a week. Miss Joyce Riwai. who was visiting relatives here, has left for Hicks Bay, h where she is on the staff of the local school. < Mrs R. Matenga has been elected delegate to represent the Pukio Tribal Committee at the executive meetings. 1 Mr and Mrs J.
