HOW WAR FUNDS ARE HELPED. BY DOMINION RACING CLUBS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. What the sport of horse-racing has done to provide funds for war purposes was stressed oy Mr E. L. Riddiford, president, in his address to members at the annual meeting of the Wellington Racing Club yesterday. ‘‘During the 1941-42 season, racing clubs contributed £137,368 in war loans, national savings and gifts to patriotic and other funds connected with the war,” he said. “They also paid in direct taxation the sum of £508,776. “It is estimated,” continued Mr Riddiford, “that racing clubs’ contributions to the Third Liberty Loan exceed £60,000, and contributions in national savings and patriotic funds should again carry that total beyond the £lOO,OOO mark for the 1942-43 season just closed. Add another half-million for direct taxes, and you will find that for the last two seasons the sport of racing has provided almost a million and a quarter for State revenue and in contributions to the war chest ■ and patriotic funds.” BEALE’S SUSPENSION. ■ i PERIOD DOUBLED. , (By Telegraph—Press Association.)
