ALLEGED PLEDGE

ELECTION CAMPAIGN EPISODE. MR J. ROBERTSON’S INTERIM REPLY. The following statement is made by Mr J. Robertson, Labour candidate for the Masterton seat, in regard to an alleged pledge, reported by Messrs J. L. Heckler and W. Horne to have been given by Mr Robertson at a political meeting at Alfredton: — “I have, not the time, as Mr Heckler well knows, to engage in a newspaper controversy. I will say, however, that his letter misrepresents what occurred at the Alfredton meeting. I will deal with the whole matter next Monday evening at a public meeting which I will address in the State Theatre, Masterton.”
