VICTORIOUS DRIVE

THREEFOLD RUSSIAN VICTORY Town Taken 60 Miles West of Stalino MARIUPOL ALSO WRESTED FROM ENEMY THRUST INTO GERMAN FLANK SOUTH-WEST OF KHARKOV LONDON, September 10. The Bed Army today gained a brilliant threefold victory on the southern front. It has made rapid progress towards the Dnieper River and has captured Chaplino, 60 miles west of Stalino, and Mariupol, on the Sea of Azov. Mariupol was captured as the result of a daring' sweep by cavalry and mechanised troops, which broke through into the German rear. In an order of the day, Marshal Stalin has given details of another fresh success achieved by the victorious Russian troops in the Donbas region, where the Russians have opened the flank of a 100 mile German salient south-west of Kharkov. Tonight’s Moscow communique also gives news of successes on other sectors of the long' Russian front. The Soviet forces have advanced north and south of Bryansk and forced the crossing of a river. Further south, they have advanced six to nine miles and liberated 80 inhabited localities.
