A nation-wide effort is under way in Canada to cut last year’s coal consumption by 20 per cent. In a radio address the Minister of Munitions and Supply, Mr C. D. Howe, announced that an Order-in-Council would be* passed making it an offence to waste coal or heat. Under the order maximum temperatures would be established for industrial and commercial plants and for other buildings, temperatures to vary according to need. Coal production for the first six months of 1943 was 6 per cent lower than during the first half of 1942.
