EXPECTED ON THE BURMA BORDER POWERFUL ALLIED CONCENTRATION FINE RECORD OF AMERICAN AIR FORCES. AGAINST JAPANESE IN BURMA AND CHINA. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 1 p.m.) CHUNGKING, September 7. Despite the prevailing calrfi, a flare-up may be expected on the Indo-Burma border, where the British have concentrated about 800,000 native troops, says the Paris radio, quoting a message from Tckio. The radio adds: “There are also about 100,000 United States troops on the border.” Brigadier-General Davidson, the new commander of the Tenth United States Air Force, speaking in New Delhi, stated: “India-based American planes were active on 25 days last month against the Japanese in Burma. They dropped 691 tons of bombs and shot down three Zeros, destroyed 200 railway trucks, sank twenty of their river craft, and sank or seriously damaged six ocean-going ships. Two United States medium bombers were lost.” Two waves of fighter-bombers accurately dive-bombed and strafed the railroad yards at Lackay, in IndoChina, starting many fires and causing extensive damage, says a communique issued by General Stilwell. Surviving members of the crew of a Liberator reported missing after the raid on Hankow on August 21 have returned to base. They confirmed the destruction cf 14 Zeros not previously reported, making a total of 57 enemy machines destroyed by Liberator gunners during the day’s action.
