National Party Campaign. The National Party candidate for the Masterton seat, Mr G. H. Mackley, addressed a well-attended meeting of settlers at Carrington on Saturday afternoon. Mr Wilson presided. On the motion of Messrs E. W. Allan and O’Connor, the candidate was accorded a vote of thanks. On Saturday night Mr Mackley met friends and supporters at Rongomai. Train Derailment. The derailment of a Fell brake van on the Rimutaka Incline on Saturday morning is stated to have been caused by a buffer breaking an£ coupled with the fact that the train was an exceptionally long one. The mail train, which was timed to reach Masterton at 11.15 a.m., did not arrive until 3.30 p.m. The south-bound express was only 33 minutes late. Protection of Stickers. An easy and effective means of protecting motor vehicle licence stickers was mentioned by the Borough Inspectors, Messrs T. A. Russell and J. McGregor, to a ‘Times-Age” representative this morning. Pointing out that complaints had been made regarding the quality of the stickers, which in many cases had broken away, they stated that the stickers could be protected by pasting a piece of paper over the back of them. New Era for Mankind. The following cablegram has been received by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, from the Prime Minister, Commonwealth of Australia, Mr Curtin:—“Your inspiring message expresses our common purpose, and with pride and gratitude the Australian Government reciprocates your regard for the co-oper-ation that has marked the war effort of our two Dominions. We look forward with confidence to the victory now becoming clearer and nearer as representing the beginning of a new era for mankind in which peace on earth will mean more than an abstention from violence, and will in fact find the nations united in constructively working to the true welfare <»f people everywhere. Our deep regards.”
