TRIBAL EXECUTIVE MEETING OF DELEGATES. (“Times- Age” Special.) There was a large attendance of delegates at the monthly meeting of the Tribal Executive held at Te Ore Ore. Mr P. H. Paku presided. The resignation of Mr E. H. Nepia, who has entered a military camp, was received with regret, several'speakers referring in eulogistic terms to his work. Mr Wilson Paku was elected secretary. A contribution of £25 was made to the funds of the Ngati-Poneke Club. It was decided to recommend Mrs K. Te Tau to the Minister as a Women’s Welfare officer. Personal Items. Mrs Adelaide Gray has returned to Otaki after a few days spent with relatives here. Miss J. Scrim cgour is the guest of Mrs F. Seward, Lake Ferry. Mr and Mrs Rountree, who have been residing here for some time, have taken up their residence at Otaraia. Mrs Gilbert Sutherland is the guest of Mrs I. Tilson. Mrs J. A. Sutherland has returned from the Lower Hutt. The death occurred recently in Wellington of Mr Robert Edward McGregor, who was well known throughout the Lower Valley. He was in former years a well known hurdle horseman, having ridden many notable winners. Due to his great courage and fearlessness, he was nick-named “Desperate Eob,” by which name he was known throughout the whole of the Lower Valley and among his racing comrades. His surviving relative is his sister, Mrs Jackson, The late Mr Hudson, of Martinborough, was an uncle. The funeral took place' in Wellington. A Cold Snap. The weather took a sudden change on Friday, when heavy rain with a cold southerly wind set in.. Conditions over the weekend were extremely boisterous and it is feared that some loss of stock will result. The ir.ilx yield at the local factory has not been up to ihe level of the same period List year and the cold snap now being experienced will not improve matters.
Tribal Social Gathering. The Pirinoa Tribal Committee held its final gathering for the year on Friday evening. There was a large attendance. The winners of the euchre v/erfe: —Ladies: Mrs H. Swainson, 1; Mrs Tawhiri, 2. Men: K. Waiwera, 1; W Taylor, 2. The consolation prizes resulted: —Mrs Toke, 1; Waka Teiia, 2. The Monte Carlo for adults was won by Miss Ann Mclntosh and R. Burling and that for the children by Noko Waiwera and C. Herangi. Competitions were won by Mrs Gilbert Suthcrland and R. Burling. The Pukio juveniles again delighted the audience with their poi dances. The local poi dancers were also seen to advantage m their items. A juvenile artist Gillies Papanui, was exceedingly popular with the audience and his items were repeatedly encored. Mr J. Carter, on behalf of the Tribal Committee, thanked the residents and visitors for the generous assistance given to the committee in all their activities, and he particularly referred to the voluntary and financial assistance given to the natives in their endeavour to raise funds for the Maori War Effort by the residents of the district, which help was greatly appreciated by the Tribal Committee and Maoris generally.
