BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP WITH RUSSIA FORGED IN THE AGONIES OF WAR. TRADES UNION CONGRESS DECLARATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, September 5. Dame Annie Loughlin, in her presidential address to the Trades Union Congress, says it would be a base betrayal, beyond human forgiveness, if we were ever to forget the sacrificial service of the Russian people, or to permit the bonds of friendship forged and tempered in the agonies of war to be again weakened and broken. No presidential address has previously been delivered to the Trades Union Congress by a woman. The Soviet Union is sending ten fraternal delegates to next week’s congress, including two women. Sir Walter Citrine disclosed that the affiliated membership of the Trades Union Congress was at the end of 1942, which was an increase of 591,767 for the year.
