The Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Knox, announced that President Roosevelt has awarded the Air Medal to Flying Officer G. E. Gudsell, R.N.Z.A.F. who is attached to the United States Marine aircraft group near Vella Lavella, for courageously dispatching aerial reconnaissance information on a Japanese surface task force in the face of heavy anti-aircraft fire and fighter opposition.
