MASTERTON SEAT
DEMOCRATIC SOLDIER LABOUR CANDIDATE. MR DONALD THOMPSON. Aircraftman Donald Thompson, Democratic Soldier Labour candidate for the Masterton seat, was born in Masterton in January, 1911. He was educated at the Upper Plain State School, and afterwards at St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch, an institution that was founded by his father, the Rev. A. T. Thomason. He completed his educa-
tion in Melbourne, Australia, attending Trinity Grammar and finally Melbourne University, where he took a course in economics. He returned to Masterton to take up farming under the tuition of his grandfather, the late Mi' D. J. Cameron, who, it is interesting to note, was a one time a candidate for the Masterton seat. Aircraftman Thompson has travelled extensively, touring Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East. He is at present a partner in a farming property in the Bideford district. 1 He entered the armed forces in June last year. In 1936 he married Miss Noelen Walsh, of Carterton, and has two children.
