Mrs A. P. Campbell has returned to Pongaroa after having been on a visit to New Plymouth. Mrs H. R. W. Beetham, “Kouratahi,” Masterton, has returned from a visit to Paraparaumu Beach. Miss Beth Robinson, Tararua Street, Masterton, is staying with her sister, Mrs Hazeldean, Hamilton. Mr and Mrs G. Beard, Longbush, have returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs Wilson, who had been the guest of Mrs S. L. P. Free, Masterton, has returned to her home in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs A. H. Eddy, Masterton, announce the engagement of their younger daughter, Ola May, to Gordon John Duff, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Wm. Duff, Hastings. The Rev. G. P. Cook, of Pongaroa, who has been transferred to Patea, and Mrs Cook, were entertained by the residents of Pongaroa at a social gathering prior to their departure and made presentations. The death has occurred at Napier of Mr Frederick Knox de Castro, a former Secretary for Education, at the age of 84. Mr de Castro entered the Civil Service in 1874 as a cadet in the Treasury, and he retired in 1917, having completed 43 years in the service. He was transferred to the Education Department in 1878. The death is reported from Dunedin of Dr William Evans, aged 68. Dr Evans, who was among the best-known general practitioners,, was in practice for 40 years. He was a prominent Mason, and closely associated with sport, particularly Rugby. He was president of the Otago Rugby Union in 1925.
