DAY OF PRAYER

$ OBSERVANCE IN MASTERTON SERVICE AT REGENT THEATRE. ADDRESS BY REV. J. CUMMING. The National Day of Prayer was observed in Masterton today when there was a large and representative gathering in the Regent Theatre. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, who presided, spoke on the power and place of prayer. The Rev. James Cumming gave a splendid address in which he emphasised that force had to be used against people who only knew that language. The vigorous prosecution of the .war effort was needed and when the evil had been overthrown that would be the time for building for peace. The Rev. G. H. Goodman led the gathering in prayer and Major V. Dick read the lesson. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich pronounced the Benediction. Mr E. F. Wilson presided at the organ.
