EKETAHUNA

ELECTION CAMPAIGN ADDRESS BY INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Captain Justin Power, Independent candidate for the Masterton seat, addressed a well-attended meeting at Eketahuna last night. The Mayor, Mr W. Olsen, presided. After outlining the general policy of the Independent Group, Captain Power summed up the political issue confronting the electors of New Zealand as follows: —The political party machinery which favoured both the Government and the National Party and framed their respective policies must be destroyed. The elected representatives of the people must legislate for the community as a whole, free from the influence of vested or other sectional interests. If the electors considered that New Zealand was not to be a socialist state, then sufficient Independent members must be returned at the forthcoming election to either govern the country or alternatively to have the balance of power. ' The candidate stated that it was considered by prominent political students that the National Party would go back in reduced numbers. Several questions were asked and answered. On the motion of Mr Carseldine, seconded by Mr Dawson, a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate was carried by acclamation.
