THE HILL BARRIER
NATIONAL PARTY LEADER’S VIEW NO VOTE-CATCHING PROMISES. GUIDANCE BY EXPERTS. In a statement in Masterton today on the subject of the Rimutaka tunnel, the Leader of the National Party (Mr S. G. Holland) said he would be pleased to see more action and less talk in the matter. He was not making a single promise to catch votes. The people were fed up with that already. If returned at this election, the National Party would consider all proposed works in order of their importance. So far as the Rimutaka project was concerned, as a layman, he knew of no more economic project. The National Party proposed, if it were returned, to be advised by a committee of experts on proposals of that kind. He was sure no one would favour a proposal of this kind if it were uneconomic.
