PIRINOA

MAORI AFFAIRS TRIBAL COMMITTEE MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Tribal Committee was held at the weekend. The Liaison Officer, Lieut. Manihera, was present and dealt with matters relating to the representation of Home Guardsmen at the forthcoming celebrations in Gisborne on October 6. A remit to be submitted to the executive committee with reference to assistance to returned soldiers was passed. The Liaison Officer also dealt with other matters. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A vote of condolence, was pased to Mr D. Tikao, a member of the committee, in the death of his sister. Personal Items. Mrs M. Thompson has returned from a visit to Greytown. Miss N. Ahipene, Featherston, has been visiting relatives at Pirinoa. Mr and Mrs J. Tauru, Wellington, were visitors to Pirinoa over the weekend. Mr and' Mrs Haughton are visiting relatives in the Hawke’s Bay district. Mrs Phillips, Wellington, was the guest of her daughter, Mrs Spicer, for a few days. Private Douglas Pitney, who has been in Gisborne, is visiting friends here before returning to a military camp. Miss M. Enoka, Wellington, spent the weekend with her parents. Mr George Ahipene, a member of an Air Force station, is visiting his parents. Road Still Impassable. The Palliser Bay Road is still impassable to vehicular traffic. The big slip has been cleared preparatory to a temporary bridge being erected over the washout. Little Mortality Among Lambs. There was little mortality among lambs during the wet and cold weather experienced here last week. Home Guard. The local Home Guardsmen visited Featherston at the weekend and indulged in range practice.
