NEW RECORD

IN CANADIAN SHIPBUILDING. THREE FREIGHTERS COMPLETED IN 39 DAYS. OTTAWA, August 20. A triple launching at Montreal creates a new record for Canadian shipbuilding. The three ships are 10,000 ton freighters and were completed in 39 working days, or eight days less than the previous record established on the Pacific Coast. A band of Iroquois Indians in full battledress and war paint lent a colourful touch to the ceremony. Many Indians from a nearby reservation had aided in building the ships. They watched them slide into waters which earlier Iroquois Indians crossed in birch bark canoes.
