PERSONAL

At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association officers were elected as follows: Patron, the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall; president, Mr J. T. McDonald (Manawatu); management committee, Messrs A. G. Henderson, J. A. McGill, W. J. Melody, H. Clay, H. S. Wilkinson, Dr N. A. Foden, and Mr A. H. Richards (re-elected hon secretary and treasurer); hon auditor, Mr F. O. Austin; representative on the L.T.A., London, and the International L.T.F., Lieut. H. G. N. Lee. A vice-president is elected by each affiliated association. The recent death at Seatoun, Wellington, of the late Mrs Georgina (Nina) Russell Fannin, widow of the late George Fannin, at the age of 92 years, recalls her long association with the old St. Matthew’s Church and Sunday School. In the early 'nineties she and the Superintendent, the late Mr Richard Brown, were in control of the Sunday school. As a zealous supporter of the temperance movement and other allied causes, the late Mrs Fannin did much work. Her husband, Mr George Fannin, was actively associated with Masterton’s progress as architect-sur-veyor at this period, and was instrumental in effecting the planning and lay-out of the local cemetery, besides many civic works for the Borough Council and other local institutions. A son and daughter attended the old Central School.
