FARMERS’ UNION WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETING. j (“Times-Age" Special.) ; j The Eketahuna branch of the Wo--1 men’s Division of the Farmers’ Union ’ 1 celebrated its eleventh birthday when ! j the president, presiding over a good . I attendance of members and friends. i Also present were several returned sol--1 i diers on furlough. ' j A most enjoyable programme was j provided. Songs were sung by Mesdames Nancye Forsyth, Bouzaid, and Oldham. Mrs Gyde gave two humorous recitations. Miss Brittain played a pianoforte solo and George Morris played saxophone items. Miss Monsell, from the American Red Cross Club in Masterion, gave an I interesting outline of her work. Mrs Groves gave a short address on the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union rest home and housekeepers. Mrs Groves was asked to light the candles on the cake and Miss Monsell to blow them out. Mrs Dickens won a competition. The committee, who were the hostesses, served afternoon tea. SCHOOL DANCE PRESENTATION TO TEACHERS. The Secondary Department of the Eketahuna District High School held a “break-up” dance in the school hall on Friday evening. The dance was organised by the house leaders and the Junior Red Cross Committee. The dance music was supplied by Miss M. Wilson. Mrs D. Hart, Beth Davie and Jocelyn Lineker. John Dawson made a capable M.C. During the evening a game of basket balloons was contested between Eketahuna pupils and those of other schools. The game was won by the latter team which comprised Brian Goggin (Wairarapa College), Nancy Fordyce (Solway College), Jean ■ Raleigh (St Matthew's College), Joyce Tolley (Pahiatua District High School), lan Fordyce (St Andrew’s College. Christchurch), Jill Hart (Christchurch j Girls’ High School). A lucky spot waltz was won by Cora Davie and Roland Connor. A musical parcel was I won by Cora Davie. "Musical Arms” by * Jean Waterreus and a statue 'waltz was won by Mac Southey and partner. Opportunity was taken during the evening of bidding farewell to Mr A. B. Fordyce, the headmaster, who is i leaving for Sumner. Mr R. Farrow, on ! behalf of the school committee, referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Fordyce's work al the school and wished him a successful time in his now position. Mr |Farrow expressed his pleasure at seeing Signalman Keith Fauvel present at the dance, as he was an old pupil of the school. Roland Connor, the senior boy. made a presentation to Mr Fordyce on behalf of the pupils. Mr Fordyce, in replying, made mention of Miss M. Burnett, who was also leaving the staff. Douglas Houlbrooke, Form 111, made a presentation to Miss Burnett. Mr F. Goggin. on behalf of the Calf Club organisation, handed a gift to Mr and Mrs Fordyce. Supper was served by the pupils. Votes of thanks were passed to those who had supplied the music and to Miss C. Wilson, who had been in charge of arrangements. Much credit is due to the pupils' Red Cross committee (Mac Carseldine, president, John Dawson, vice-president, and Muriel Gray, secretary) and the House leaders for their capable management. Personal Items. Miss M. Burnett has left Eketahuna to spend the holidays at her home in Wellington. Mr Lockhart, of the Wellington Teachers’ Training College, has been appointed headmaster of the Eketahuna District High School. Mrs Hogan has been appointed secondary assistant. Political Address. The Hon. J. O'Brien, Minister of Transport, will address a public meeting in Eketahuna on Friday next at 6.30 p.m.
