ORDER OF DRUIDS TOTARA LODGE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The quarterly summoned meeting ol Totara Lodge No. 3, U.A.0.D., was held last night, District President, Bro. W. Fryer, presiding in the absence or Arch. Druid Bro. H. J. Bassett, who was absent on. account of the illness of his father. The Wairarapa Friendly Societies' Hospital Association advised that it had been decided to continue the association for a further twelve months, and members would be admitted at two skillings per member per year, which gives free ambulance service and district nurse. The secretary was instructed to circularise members and ascertain the number wishing to continue. Bro. W. Sage wrote stating that he | had arrived at his destination overseas. Mrs W. Toomath notified that her husband, Bro. W. Toomath was an inmate of the Wellington Hospital. 'The secretary reported that appeal for donations to provide emrisiinas parcels for lodge members on active service had been lioerallj' responded w. Votes of thanks to D.P. Bro. W. Fryer for a donation to the social and benevolent fund and to tne l<’oresters’ Lodge for the use of the hail for a recent gathering of Air Training Cadets was carried by acclamation. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £.56 3s 6d were passed tor payment. Members not clear on the books tire requested to do so at once to avoid suspension. Patriotic Dance. The dance held in the State Theatre last evening by the Soldiers’ Fund Committee was well patronised and a most enjoyable lime was spent by those present. The inclusion in the dance programme of the old-time Lancers and Mazurka met with approval. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss D. Sewell and Mr Lye, and a statue waltz by Mrs T. Brown and Mr I. Bond. The music was supplied by Mrs Ashton's Orchestra. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr P. L. Beere. The supper arrangements were in charge of a ladies’ committee. Personal Items. j The death occurred at Palmerston > North of an old and highly respected resident of Levin in the person of Mr Hugh Shanks, at the age of 87 years. Mr Shanks who had resided in New Zealand for the past 63 years, settled in ' the Pahiatua district where for up-; wards of half a century he carried on a contracting business and was responsible for much of the road work Incidental to the early settlement of that district. Some years ago he went I to Levin and settled in Queen Street I East where he resided until the time of I his death. His wife predeceased him some 13 years ago and the late John Shanks.-of Belvedere, was a brother. .There is one surviving sister, Mrs G. Anderson, of Chicago, U.S.A. The interment took place at Levin, the pallbearers being Messrs Stan Green and W. Shanks (Levin), Frank Sewell (Carterton), J. and B. Parsons and B. Vincent (Levin). The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. G. B. StoteBlandy. L.A.C. The committee of the Carterton Football Club has decided that members of the Second Expeditionary Force who recently returned from active service overseas, shall be guests at their championship ball in the State Theatre, Carterton, on Wednesday, September 1. REGENT THEATRE “MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY.” Tonight’s programme at the Regent Theatre will be headed by the thrilling drama, “Mutiny on the Bounty,” in which the chief characters are portrayed by Clark Gable, Charles Laughton, and Franchot Tone. A children’s matinee will be held on Wednesday, commencing at 2 p.m.
