MASTERTON CLUB’S ANNUAL REPORT PROFIT OF £1351 RECORDED. OPAKI COURSE BEING PLACED IN GOOD ORDER. “Due to enforced racing curtailment, one day’s racing was available to us, and as the military authorities were in occupation at our course, it was decided to approach the Otaki Maori Racing Club for permission to hold our meeting on their course, states the annual report of the Master ton Racing Club. “Consent was readily given by the Otaki Club, and the necessary authority from the N.Z. Racing Conference for the change of venue was obtained, and a very successful meeting from all points of view was held, the investments on the totalisator amounting to £30,144, as against £19.277 for our two-day meeting at our course in 1942. The club is deeply indebted to the Otaki Maori Racing Club for granting us the use of their course. “After writing off depreciation amounting to £ll7 Os lid, the revenue account shows a profit of £1351 los lOd. The club has subscribed £5OO to the Liberty War Loan. Satisfactory arrangements have been made with the Government regarding . putting the grounds and buildings in the same good order as they were when taken over by the army, and this work is now being carried out under the supervision of the ground committee and Mr J. C. D. Mackley, and should be completed before our meeting to be held on our course on Saturday, October 16. “The following nominations have been received for the respective offices of president, vice-presidents (2) and stewards (7):—President, Mr J. M. James; vice-presidents, Messrs C. J. Bennett and S. J. W. Gill. Stewards: In accordance with the rules of the club 7 stewards retire annually, and the following nominations have been received to fill the vacancies: Messrs J. A. Betts, W. 'R. P. Cooper, H. L. Esau, J. Jameson, J. Mulvaney, J. C. D. Mackley, N. G. F. Whiteman. As only the required nominations have been received a ballot will not be necessary, and those nominated will be duly elected at the annual general meeting “All members will join with your executive in offering sympathy to the relatives of the late Major I. A. Hart and Corporal K. E. Power, who have made the supreme sacrifice, and the late Messrs P. Bellis, D. J. Cameron, J. C, Ewington, W. G. Whiteman and F. L. Williams.”
