COMPARATIVE INCREASES NEW ZEALAND IN GOOD POSITION. ON BASIS OF OFFICIAL FIFURES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, stated today that he had. received particulars of cost of living increases m retail figures from the High Commissioner in. London, Mr W. J. Joi dan. These confirmed the claim that New Zealand headed the list for the lowest increase in the cost of living during the war. and emphasised the efficiency and effectiveness of the price control and economic ■ stabilisation policies which had been enforced since the beginning of the war. Mr Jordan’s message stated that the British Ministry of Labour “Gazette” publishes the following cost of living percentage increases since 1939: New Zealand, 13.4; Canada, 1G.7; Australia, 22.4; United States, 22.6; South Africa, 23.5; United Kingdom, 29; Sweden, 42; Eire, 59; Portugal, 59.6; India (Bombay), 95.2.
