LADIES’ ASSOCIATION GREYTOWN WIN KIA TOA CUP. MORRIS CUP TO SINCERITY. Competition games under the control of the Wairarapa Ladies’ Hockey Association were brought to a conclusion last Saturday, when the final games in the contest for the Kia Tea (seniot) and Morris (junior) Cups were played. Both trophies were held by the Excelsior Club, but this season the Kia Toa Cup passed into the keeping of Greytown, while Sincerity annexed the Morris trophy. The various competitions conducted by the Association this year have been won as follows: —Senior: Championship, Excelsior; six-a-side tourney, Greytown; Kia Toa Cup, Greytown. Junior: Championship, Excelsior; six-a-side tourney, Sincerity; Morris Cup, Sincerity. KEEN GAME AT GREYTOWN. HOME TEAM WIN EXCITING CONTEST. After holding the Kia Toa Cup for the past six seasons, Excelsior lost the trophy to Greytown, after an exciting game, by the narrow margin of 2 goals to 1. The game was played at Greytown under the best possible conditions, and though the result was in doubt 1 right to the finish. Greytown deserved their win, showing a higher degree of combination and excellent stick work. Excelsior’s fast forward line, however, was always dangerous. Greytown attacked almost continuously throughout the first half, but good work by their goalie kept Excelsior’s goal intact. Excelsior showed to better advantage in the second half and scored early from a fast breakaway. They held their lead until about ten minutes from the end of the game, when Greytown exploited an undoubted weakness in the Excelsior backs and scored twice in quick succession. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea after the game. MORRIS CUP. Sincerity were practically assured of winning the Morris Cup the previous Saturday, when they defeated the holders, Excelsior, by 2 goals to nil, and their win by 11 goals to nil against College B was not unexpected. Other results were:— Senior. —College 6, Kia Ora 1. Junior—College A 4, Carterton 0. TRIAL GAMES. Owing to shortage of space, the list of players selected for the senior A and B and junior rep. trial games are held over till tomorrow’s issue. MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY AIR FORCE. The Air Force and Wairarapa College met on Saturday in the final match of the season. The weather was fine and the ground fast. Air Force proved too good for College and won by 9 goals to nil, thus securing the championship for 1943. Messrs G. Hayne and E. Tooby were the referees.
