ON JAPANESE AIRPORT NEAR CANTON ENEMY ATTACK INTERCEPTED & REPELLED. TOTAL OF FIVE ZEROS SHOT DOWN. (By Telegraph—Frees Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) CHUNGKING, August 22. “Mitchell bombers, in a raid on the Tienho Airport, near Canton, scored many direct hits on hangars and revetment areas,” says a communique issued by General Stillwell. “Japanese fighters attempted interception and five Zeros were shot down and two others probably destroyed. “This American raid followed on a Japanese attempted attack on a United States air force base in Kwangsi Province. The Japanese attack was intercepted and no bombs were dropped. Two Zeros were destroyed.”
