FINE ACHIEVEMENT

RAID ON PEENEMUNDE. BOMBER COMMAND WARMLY CONGRATULATED. . (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.0 a.m.) RUGBY, August 22. The success of the Peenemunde raid on Tuesday has been confirmed by photographs. The following message has been sent by the Secretary for Air (Sir A. Sinclair) to Sir Arthur Harris, Commander-in-Chief of the Bomber Command, congratulating him and the groups and squadrons concerned on the successful attack on the aircraft research and radio location station: “Photographs prove the outstanding success of your raid on Peenemunde. The accuracy of the'bombing, in spite of a smoke-screen and fierce fighting over the targets, testifies to the skill and determination of your crews and the effectiveness of your planning and tactical methods. Congratulations to you and to the groups and squadrons under your command on this shattering attack upon a difficult but important target.” Sir Arthur Harris, acknowledging the message, said: “Thank you for your signal, which will be greatly appreciated by all concerned in the planning and execution of the attack on Peenemunde.”
