CARTERTON
SOLOMON ISLANDS AN INTERESTING ADDRESS. (“Times-Age” Special.) In the course of an address on the Solomon Islands to the League of Mothers, the Rev. R. Grice, of Carterton, said the native.-; were black in colour, their skin shining like polished boots. They are thick set in build, medium sized with very frizzy hair, and very intelligent. They were a very cruel, vicious and crafty race, being head-hunters and cannibals. The first missionary went to the Solomons in 1902. With the advent of Christianity numbers of them have been converted into loveable people. Americans have named them the “fuzzywuzzy angels/’ because of their sympathetic kindness and treatment of wounded airmen. In the western Solomons all of the native government servants had been trained in tho Methodist mission schools.
THE DAIRYING SEASON INCREASE IN MILK SUPPLY. The dairying season will soon be in full swing and generally speaking there has been a satisfactory increase in the quantity of milk delivered. Many dairy herds have been substantially increased and a number C.f dairy farmers are paying particular attention to the work of culling out the “boarder.” and “robbers” from their herds. Those farmers who have had their herds tested are reaping the benefit of their wise decision by increased returns and decreased expenditure. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs F. Jackson Senr., left yesterday to spend a holiday at Hawera. Mr and Mrs S. T. Rooney, of Carterton, left yesterday on a visit to Hastings. REGENT THEATRE “LOUISIANA PURCHASE.” The famous Broadway hit, “Louisiana Purchase,” will be shown tonight, the chief roles being enacted by Bob Hope and Zorina.
