TRAIN DERAILMENT

PASSENGERS HAVE LUCKY ESCAPE MISHAP ON HUTT LINE. CONSIDERABLE DELAY TO TRAFFIC. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The engine and second, third, fourth and fifth carriages of the eight) carriage 7.25 a.m. train from Upper Hutt to Wellington, which normally carries 300 to 400 passengers, were derailed a mile north of Andrews station this morning, stopping traffic on the local and Wairarapa line. The derailed carriages were left leaning against the bank of the highway on the inner side of a slight curve. The rails were bent and broken and the track ploughed up. The passengers had a lucky escape from injury. One woman sustained a wrenched ankle. The train brings in a large number of suburban passengers and there will be a considerable delay before the line is cleared.
