Meeting at Mt. Bruce.

There was a good attendance at the Mt. Bruce Hall last night, when Mr G. H. Mackley, National Party candidate for the Masterton seat, spoke on the political position to friends and supporters. Mr T. Wyeth presided. On the motion of Mr L. J. Matthews, Mr Mackley was accorded a vote of thanks. Y.M.C.A. Hostess Dance. A large number of service men enjoyed a happy three hours in the Y.M.C.A. The arrangements for the dance were in the hands of Mesdames Corskie, Marchbanks and Traynor. Mr W. Flaws gave much-appreciated assistance. These gatherings are held regularly each week. Ewe’s Great Record.

A crossbred Oxford ewe, owned by Mr Crawford Perkins, prominent Herefordshire agriculturist, of Lugwardine Court, Hereford, England, has set up a lambing yield which is thought to be a record for the British Isles. A double in 1941 was followed by triplets last year and quadruplets again this year,

Work Appreciated. The valuable work carried out by the headmaster of Lansdowne School, Mr J. W. T. Jones, as a voluntary teacher to the children patients in the T.B. ward at the Masterton Hospital, was referred to by Mrs S. Fletcher at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board. It was decided to send Mi- Jones, who has been transferred to Featherston, a letter of thanks and to write to the Education Department and ask that a teacher be made available for the work. Mrs Fletcher said the board had to see that the children in the T.B. ward received their schooling. Mrs J. Robertson said it was more necessary that the T.B. children should receive teaching than the children in the other wards, who were only in hospital for a short time.
