AWARD TO AIRMAN
DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS.
PILOT OFFICER T. McKINLEY.
(Bv' Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day.
The award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Pilot Officer Terence McKinley, R.N.Z.A.F., of Wellington, was announced today. The citation states that Pilot Officer McKinley took part in a twenty-minute fight with five Junkers eighty-eights. On-another occasion his aircraft was caught in searchlights and hit while over the target area, and on a third occasion he continued with mine-laying operations after one engine had given out. The citation continued: "McKinley is an outstanding captain, and his fine fighting spirit, courage and leadershio have gained him the entire confidence of his crew. His targets have included Berlin, Hamburg and Essen.” Pilot Officer McKinley was born in Nelson, and his parents reside in Wellington.
