ROTARY CLUB
MEETING IN MASTERTON. SOLDIER ON FURLOUGH GIVES EXPERIENCES. Speaking at today’s meeting of the Masterton Rotary Club, Lieutenant R. Johnston, who recently returned home on furlough from the Middle East, gave an interesting acocunt of the different countries ho had visited since leaving New Zealand with the First Echelon. He referred to his experiences in the desert and gave a good description of the fighting from Egypt to Tunisia. The Italian colonisation plan in Tunisia and the life and modes of the people in Egypt, Greece Crete and Tunisia were described. On the motion of Mr Norman Lee the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address.
The president, Mr J. H. Cunningham, presided over a large attendance of members. Visitors at the luncheon were Messrs F. S. Smaill, Masterton; Lieut. H. W. Hantmann, United States Veterinary Corps, and Chief Petty Officer W. L. Friesz. U.S. Navy. Mr R. S. Graham was admitted to Rotary membership by the inauguration officer, the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich.
