LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
ANNUAL MEETING ( ELECTION OF OFFICERS. AN INTERESTING ADDRESS., The annual meeting of the League of Mothers was held yesterday, afternoon in Knox Hall, Masterton, Mrs L. B. Maunsell presiding over a large attendance. The anual report, which was read and adopted, recorded an excellent year with the enrolment of many young mothers. Mrs Maunsell was unanimously elected president for the thirteenth year, and was presented with a box of flowers. Mrs E. J. Brown, in nominating Mrs Maunsell, expressed the feelings of all members when she stated that Mrs Maunsell was an outstanding president, and one whose place it would be hard to fill. She entered into the joys and sorrows of all, and each one felt her loving sympathy and support. By her own courage and in her motherhood. Mrs Maunsell had been an incentive to all to keep their “standard” high. Other officers elected were: —Vicepresidents, Mesdames McNeur, E. J. Rich, Cummings, Goodman, Major, Hope and Dick; secretary, Mrs L. Hunter; treasurer, Mrs C. Mabson; committee, Mesdames J. Blackwood, Lee, E. J. Brown, Speight, F. Taylor, Ogilvie, Norman, Gaskin, Keltie, J. Russell, Corskie,'T. Russell, Bull, Kent-Johnston and Baillie; card secretary, Mrs Lee; magazine secretary, Mrs Speight; tea convenor, Mrs Corskie.
Mrs Miller Hope reported on the work of the choir- during the past year, especially thanking Mrs Burke, who, owing to ill-health, had had to relinquish her office of secretary. Mrs Burke had done much to hold the choir together. The speaker for the meeting was the Rev. D. McNeur, the title of whose talk was “Belief and Behaviour.” “Where belief is wanting, behaviour is lacking,” said Mr McNeur, “as they are one and the same thing. God expresses Himself so well in nature, as it is implicitly obedient to His laws. God desires to express Himself more and more through His higher creation, “Man.” Before that world of harmony which all desire so much can come into being, man must again find out God’s laws for living and then be obedient to them.” “Motherhood,” continued Mr McNeur, “is the highest of Gods creations, fjtf God can best show forth His through mothers. Love must go hand in hand with obedience —first in the home and then in the world at large.’ Tracing the history of several great women and men, Mr McNeur said it was not known in whose humble home the great leaders of the future were being reared, and he urged those present to preserve such meetings as those of the League, the fellowship and ideals of which must certainly inspire its members.
Tea hostesses were Mesdames Berney, Corskie, Bloxam, Stubbings, G. Thomas, Richards, Aikman, C. Malmo and Way.
