BLUENOSE CLUB
MEN OF THE ARCTIC CONVOYS. “By way of souvenir, we of the Arctic convoys are now able to claim membership of the exclusive and newlyappointed Bluenose Club. This is an honour conferred with an appropriate certificate similar to that associated with the traditional crossing-the-line ceremony. Neptune’s seal being countersigned by Aurora Borealis, Queen of the North. The holder, having appeared in the ‘Northernmost reaches of Neptupne’s realm with royal permission’ is declared to be a ‘loyal and trusty Bluenose, entitled to due deference and respect from all icebergs, Polar bears, whales, sea lions and other natural creatures of the frozen north.’ Our exclusive passport is clearly denied to Hitler’s mariners whose evil machines are not listed thereon among the named terrors of the Northern deep, and are therefore obviously considered by Neptune to be a very low and temporary form of life, rapidly approaching complete extermination.” —Lieutenant C. A. H. Owen, R.N., in a 8.8. C. broadcast.
