PIRINOA

HOME GUARD EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Home Guard euchre party and dance held on Friday evening was a decided success, there being a large attendance. The music for the dance was supplied by Te Maari’s Band and the M.C. was Sergeant Mclntosh. The euchre prizes were won as follows: Ladies, Mrs Bragg 1, Mrs Saunders 2. Men: Mr Ngairo 1, Mr A. Burling 2.

The competition winners were Mr M. Atkinson (dinner) and Miss Lois Ritchie. Lieut. E. C. Holmes, officer in command of the Home Guard, thanked those present for their patronage | and expressed, his appreciation of the efforts which helped to make the gathering such a success. Roads Blocked. As a result of the Ruamahnga River breaking a bank in the vicinity of the Lower Valley factory, the main highway was blocked to traffic on Thursday. The Palliser Bay road at Te Kopi is blocked in two places and vehicular traffic will not bo able to use the road for some time. Football and Basketball. The seven-a-side school football match Pirinoa versus South Featherston, played on the latter's ground, was won by the home team by eight points to four. P. Carter potted a goal for the visitors. The basketball match was won by the visiting girls by 22 to 13. Return matches will be played at Pirinoa. Latter Day Saints. A branch conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was held at Masterton over the weekend. The Mission President, Mr Cowley, was among the visitors present. There were also present representatives of the Church from Dannevirke, Porirua, Palmerston North, besides members of the various branches throughout the Wairarapa. Election Campaign.

Mr B. Roberts. M.P., fired the first shot of his electioneering campaign on Saturday evening when he addressed a large meeting of electors in the Pirinoa Hall. His address was listened to with much interest. Many questions were asked and answered. A unanimous vote of thanks was accorded the speaker on the motion of Mr J. Carter, seconded by Mr G. Sutton. Mr F. Lovegrove, J.P., presided. Personal Items. Mrs Atkinson is the guest of Mr and Mrs R. J. McClelland, Waitotara. Miss M. Spooner is staying with Mr and Mrs Trounson. Mr E. King!, Greytown, was a visitor to Pirinoa at the weekend. Mr A. Spicer, who has been a resident of this district for the past 25 years, has left to live in Hawke's Bay. Mrs Spicer and family will not leave until early next month. Mr Geo. Kini has left on a visit to Auckland.

Mr F. Te Maari? who has been in hospital, has returned home.
