Mr J. Robertson, member for Masterton, will be in Wellington on Parliamentary business until the middle of next week.
The death is reported in a Press Association telegram from Christchurch, of Mr H. D. Andrews, barrister and solicitor. Born in Belfast,- Ireland, in 1859, Mr Andrews had been in practice in Christchurch for 60 years.
The funeral of the late Mrs Isabella Cockburn took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance, and a number of wreaths were received, amongst which was one from St. Bride’s Convent. The service at the chapel and that at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. D. McNeur. and the pall-bearers were Messrs A. McDonald, T. Leete, S. Morgan and R. Sutherland.
There was a representative attendance at the funeral of the late Mr J. B. McKenzie, of Masterton, which took place this morning. The Rev. David McNeur conducted the service at the chapel of Hyde's Funeral Service, Ltd., and also officiated at the Crematorium at Karori. Many beautiful wreaths were in evidence. The pallbearers were Messrs A. W. McKenzie, P. Shaw, M. Reid and H. W. Thompson.
There was a large and representative attendance of residents of . the Mt. Bruce and surrounding districts at the funeral of the late Mr Jack J. A. Pain, which took place at Masterton yestei • day afternoon. Services at the chapel and graveside were conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich. The pallbearers were Messrs L. J. Matthews and A. Chamberlain (representing the R.S.A., Mr Pain having served with the forces in the last war), D. Christensen and H. H. Christensen. A number of wreaths were received.
The death occurred at Auckland on Sunday of Mr Neil Gray (formally of Masterton), fifth son of the late Mr George James Gray, who was on the staff of the “Wairarapa Star” in the early days. His eldest brothel, the late Mr George Gray, was well known in band circles in Masterton. Other bi others are Messrs Tom (Lower Hutt). Hy. (Wellington), Charles (Australia), Vivian (Taihape), Roy (Masterton) and Frank Gray (Wellington). He also leaves a sister, Mrs W. Elder, of Hastings. Mr Gray is survived by his wife and one son. Mr Earle Gray, who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement.
The funeral of the late Nurse B. Spellman took place in Masterton this morning. There was a large and representative attendance of residents to pay their last respects to one who was held in the highest respect. The Rev Father Moore officiated at St Patrick's Church, where Requiem Mass was celebrated and the Rev Dr Gilhooly conducted the service at the Master ton Cemetery. Wreaths were sent by the Wairarapa branch of .the New Zealand Registered Nurses' Association, the Country Women’s Club' and the Red Cross Society, besides others from private sympathisers. Messrs P. Savage, F. Cooper, C. O'Donnell, C. Walker, J. Savage and T. Kerins were the pallbearers.
