SEASONAL FARM WORK
MEN IN CANADIAN ARMY.
OTTAWA, July 30.
The Home Army is helping on the food front. The Minister of Labour, the Hon Humphrey Mitchell, has telegraphed the Provincial Premiers inviting their co-operation with the Dominion Government in a plan to place soldiers from Army units stationed in Canada on farm work. Under the plan the men cannot be detailed from training units. From operational units men may be detailed up to 10 per cent of the strength of the unit. From formations outside training centres the percentage is not necessarily limited to 10 per cent but may be as large a percentage as can be spared. In both cases the limitation is subject to the exigencies of the service as determined by the district officer commanding. The absence provided will be for thirty days, with provision for an extension if a case is made and if service conditions permit.
