MASTERTON ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL REPORT.

RENTAL FOR SHOWGROUNDS.

The fifty-sixth annual report of the Masterton A. and P. Association states, inter alia: —

“Ram Fair. —This was held as usual, and shows a profit of £136 9s 7d, as compared with £207 12s 8d in 1942. Due to war conditons and not holding any shows for two years, members were not asked for annual subscriptions, as we had nothing to offer them. However, 62 members did send in their subscriptions, and these have been gratefully received. We are also grateful to those who made donations to the funds.

“Occupancy of Grounds Rental. — This matter was handled through the Public Works Department and the following agreement reached: —(1) The association accepted £245 13s 3d as rental for the period 10//1/42 to 30/6/42 (this sum representing our loss for the year ending 30/6/42). (2) For year ending 30/6/43 the rental to be on a basis of no profit or loss to the association, and is approximately £6lO, of which amount £4OO has been paid' on account.

"After writing off £145 17s lOd depreciation, there is a surplus of £289 12s 3d, which includes £245 13s 3d of rental for the period 10/1/42 to 30/6/42. The mortgage still stands at £1250. A sum of £lOO has been invested in the War Loan.

"The committee records with regret the deaths of the following members: — Miss G. E. Heckler, Messrs J. H. Percy, D. McLachlan, R. Wilton (life member), T. H. Groves, D. J. Cameron (past president), Major I. A. Hart W. Burridge, P. Neilsen (life member), F. H. Dunderdale (life member), T. L. Mason, J. C. Ewington, G. A. Cameron, Sgt. L. Mee (overseas). In each case suitable reference has been made in the records of the association and sympathy extended to their relatives.

"Roll of Honour." —During the year, as far as can be traced, the following made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the Empire: Major I. A. Hart and Sgt. L. Mee. The following are serving in the forces: —J. T. L. Barton, R. W. Perry, R. A. Bunny, H. O. Bunny, J. B. Bennett, R. F. Buick, R. Bunny, W. 1. Bunny, O. C. Cardno, C. C. Cook, D. Cooper, L. K. Cooper, Dr. J. M. Coutts. J. Coom, J. K. Donald, R. M. Falloon, H. R. Falloon, I. Gordon, S. V. Gooding, H. M. A. Major, A. Hart, J. C. Holmes, R. Hewitt, Miss K. Levin, W. P. Maddever, Miss N. Morrison, C. McLeod, A. M. McPhee, D. McGregor, C. A. Newland, P. O’Neill, H. C. Pearce, P. S. Rishworth, W. M. Sellar, G. Smith, R. T. Stewart, W. A. Taplin, O. Williams, R. H. Wardell, G. Blatchford. This list may not be complete, and we should be grateful if friends or relatives would advise of any alterations or additions.

“Retirements from Committee. —The following are not seeking re-election: — Messrs W. F. McLaren and H. M. Brisco. Mr McLaren has given many years of valuable service to the association as a committee man and as president. Ho has done wonderful work in the interests of the association, and we sincerely thank him for his services and considerable financial assistance over the years. Our thanks are also due to Mr Brisco, who was a very useful member of the committee, and we regret that owing to his departure his services will be no longer available. “Thanks are due to those who in any way assisted during the year, and to the Press for publicity given at all times.” The report is signed for the committee by Mr R. E. Gordon Lee. president.
